About 3.2 billion gigabytes—that will be the digital storage capacity of the global surveillance marketplace sometime in 2013, according to a new study.

That marketplace will be worth about $2.5 billion, IMS Research predicts. IP and enterprise surveillance video storage is "set to grow rapidly for the foreseeable future," IMS said, despite the economic downturn.

“The trend characterizing the evolving enterprise and IP storage world market is that older, analogue CCTV is being replaced with network video surveillance equipment,” IMS said. “End-users are choosing to improve camera resolution as they upgrade their existing systems or install new video surveillance systems. In turn, DVR storage will prove to be insufficient as video surveillance moves onto the network and camera start producing more data.”

Asia will make of 30 percent of the total world market for storage, according to the report.

The fastest growing vertical market between 2008 and 2013 is forecast to be Education.

The study also predicts IP SAN will grow faster than the any other storage type between 2008 and 2013. http://www.governmentvideo.com/article/92404
