The U.S. government has ordered four mobile backscatter X-ray devices—known as ZBV Military Trailers—from American Science and Engineering Inc., a global provider of X-ray inspection systems.

The ZBV Military Trailer—which is used to screen vehicles for explosives and other hidden threats—is a ruggedized version of ASE’s Z Backscatter Van. The mobile ZBV Military Trailer can be deployed for counterterrorism missions in harsh environments, the company says.

The ZBV Military Trailer is a rugged, X-ray screening system built onto a standard military trailer. With one-sided, “Z Backscatter” imaging the system can screen vehicles, containers and other cargo for contraband, explosives and weapons. The ZBV Military Trailer is designed for immediate deployment in response to security threats, ASE says.

This order demonstrates the ongoing effectiveness of the ZBV Military Trailer in supporting the U.S. government’s high-risk counterterrorism, force protection, and explosives detection operations, said Anthony Fabiano, ASE’s president and CEO. The ZBV Military Trailer has a record of outstanding performance in harsh field environments, and very high customer satisfaction ratings for quality and reliability in meeting rigorous security requirements, he adds.
