The U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has certified Morpho Detection Inc.’s high-speed checked bag explosives detection solution—the CTX 9800 DSi—the company says.

Morpho’s CTX 9800 DSi explosives detection system is a high-speed system that processes more than 40 percent more bags than the company’s fastest previously certified system, the company says. It is certified at a belt speed of 0.3 meters per second, which is fast enough to screen more than 1,000 bags per hour, depending on bag size, spacing and overall capacity of the airport baggage handling system, according to Morpho.

The CTX 9800 uses computed tomography-imaging technology to create a three-dimensional image of each bag and it automatically compares the contents of the bag with the properties of known threat explosives using a series of algorithms, the company says.
