ST. PAUL, MINN.—Massachusetts’ Douglas Cable Access channel recently updated its playout system, choosing to go with the Cablecast Broadcast Automation software and Cablecast Flex 4 video server from Tightrope Media Systems. The new system has helped streamline the station’s workflows as well as add a third channel to its centralized operations.

The four-channel Cablecast Flex server configured came with a trio of outputs alongside a recording channel for live feeds for the public access and government station. With the installation, Douglas Cable Access was able to incorporate the previously independently operated local education channel within its unified playout center. Staff members are able to manage and program the channel remotely through Cablecast’s web-based interface.

The station has also begun using Tightrope’s Carousel Digital Signage Software to power the community bulletin board seen on the public and government channels. This is done through the integration between the Carousel and Cablecast systems.

Additional features being utilized from the Cablecast system include scheduling tools, metadata support, reporting capabilities, and multi-codec format flexibility to help eliminate transcoding.

Douglas Cable Access is located in Douglas, Mass.
