TeleCommunication Systems Inc. (TCS), a provider of mobile communication technology, has selected Hughes Network Systems’, a provider of broadband satellite solutions and services, HX VSAT system for the TCS HX Enabled Secure Satellite Network.

The TCS HX Enabled Secure Satellite Network offers support for voice, data, and video communications, and will provide international satellite coverage for government and military customers, enhancing TCS’s C4ISR prominence in secure communications solutions, according to the companies.

Ideal implementations for the network include command and control operations and intelligence/surveillance/reconnaissance (ISR) transport, as well as to provide morale, welfare and recreation capabilities for warfighters deployed in combat and peacekeeping missions, the firms says.

“This arrangement is ‘win-win-win,’” said Michael Bristol, TCS’ senior vice president and general manager of government solutions. “Hughes wins by gaining the ability to take advantage of expanded coverage into Europe, Africa, the Caribbean and Latin America; TCS wins by now having the ability to offer our customers better bandwidth efficiencies and TRANSEC capabilities; and our current and potential customers win by having access to more throughput on less capacity, which will translate into significant savings for them.”

The TCS HX Enabled Secure Satellite Network has an anticipated launch of early 2012, and the service will be available on the U.S. General Services Administration’s IT Schedule 70, the companies say.
