SRT Alliance now has 127 members, including Ericsson and BrightSign

MONTREAL — One of the fastest growing open source video streaming movements has added new members to its fold.

The SRT Open Source Project announced that Ericsson and BrightSign have joined the SRT Alliance, bringing the total number of members to 127.

SRT is an open source video transport protocol and technology stack, developed and pioneered by Haivision, that optimizes streaming performance across unpredictable networks with secure streams and firewall traversal. The goal is to bring high-quality live video over the worst networks, the company said. The SRT Open Source Project, driven by the SRT Alliance, is a collaborative community of industry leaders and developers striving to achieve lower latency internet video transport by continuously improving open-source SRT.

The SRT Alliance held its first Virtual Plugfest on May 15 to test interoperability of SRT streams amongst different vendors. The event yielded more than 50 successfully completed tests from 15 manufacturers, validating SRT streams between cameras, encoders, decoders, gateways, multiviewers and players.

“The SRT ecosystem is growing by the day, as evidenced by some new top tier members joining and the success of the plugfest. It’s exciting to see the breadth of new SRT Ready solutions that are continuously being launched in the streaming and broadcast community,” said Sylvio Jelovcich, vice president of global alliances at Haivision.

Ericsson Media Solutions, a provider of broadcast video solutions, joins the SRT Alliance with its distributed cloud contribution solutions. BrightSign, a digital signage manufacturer, joins the alliance to enable endpoints to receive and display high-quality, low-latency video from remote sources.

Other members that have recently joined include Anevia, Cinemassive, DaCast and Marshall Electronics.

The alliance was active at InfoComm as well. At the 2018 show, the SRT Alliance Pavilion demonstrated multivendor SRT Open Source interoperability with multiviewers, decoders, cameras, cloud platform, encoders and other products.
