Sony Unveils New Camcorder, Switcher And Remote Controller

Trio of new products are designed to work both together and independent of one another

Sony's new RM-30BP multi-function remote controller PARK RIDGE, NJ–Sony has unveiled a new camcorder along with a complimentary multi-function remote commander and switcher.

An expansion of Sony’s NXCAM line, the HXR-NX5R HD compact camcorder features a choice of either XAVC-S 50Mbps or AVCHD/DV recording formats, has built in Wi-Fi and FTP wireless connections, an LED video light with adjustable brightness and simultaneous backup recording with dual SD card slots. The camcorder has three 1/2.8-type Full HD Exmor CMOS sensors and a 40x zoom function.

The RM-30BP multi-function remote controller can be handheld, attached to a tripod arm or placed on a table. The RM-30BP controls the lens with a zoom function, a one push auto focus or a manual focus and an iris adjuster. Users can also control a camera’s recording trigger, display functions, shutter speed, white balance and playback. The controller is compatible with Sony’s new HXR-NX5R, the new MCX-500 switcher and the PXW-FS7 v4.0 cinema cam. Sony plans to extend RM-30BP compatibility to its other cameras in the future.

The new MCX-500 switcher sends PGM/PVW tally signals out to cameras, designed to alert camera operators to which camera is live. It’s compatible with the new HXR-NX5R and RM-30BP.

The HXR-NX5R is expected to be available in September of 2016 and the RM-30BP is expected to be available by October of 2016. A January, 2017 availability goal is set for the MCX-500.
