With Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and more, there’s a whole new world of community engagement in law enforcement. So anyone interested in public safety and communications might want to come to the SMILE (Social Media in Law Enforcement) Conference in Washington, D.C., April 7-9.

The conference promises to arm attendees with the technical hands-on skills and practical knowledge to enter the social media world with confidence.

The current speaker line-up includes social media law enforcement professionals from four countries. The first is a hands-on day of training on Wednesday. Community engagement is the theme on Thursday, with crime topics on Friday.

The conference will address investigative techniques and cases studies, social media policy and strategy, legal issues, and recruitment and retention.

The conference will also include one evening Town Hall meeting.
