The RF Extreme family of products for government, military, law enforcement and surveillance applications has grown from the union of RF Central, Nucomm and Microwave Service Company (MSC), combining their knowledge of COFDM transmission with experience in both field applications and engineering.

Now, to reduce confusion among those names, the brand—under the corporate umbrella of The Vitec Group—is changing its name to Integrated Micrwve Technologies, which better describes its mission-oriented, small, rugged tools, for demanding applications from ENG on up to the battlefield.

The company will continue its legacy of products to be driven by customers’ needs. They want big reliability, small packages, and flexibility to use the tools for whatever applications the world throws at them, said Keith Blaisdell, vice president of product development. And the development of H.264 encoding is making the video capacity of the solutions even greater.

At the 2010 NAB Show, IMT showed a variety of tools that offer a lot of tactical possibilities.

The company wanted its products to be driven by customers’ needs, said Keith Blaisdell, RF Extreme vice president of product development. They want big reliability, small packages, and flexibility to use the tools for whatever applications the world throws at them. The company likes to look as its products not as boxes, but as solutions.

And the development of H.264 encoding is making the video capacity of the tools even greater.

So at the 2010 NAB Show, RF Extreme will have a variety of tools that offer a lot of tactical possibilities.

POWERFUL NEW RECEIVERS
First, there’s the PSRX6D portable suitcase six-way and MobilCmdr handheld two-way COFDM diversity receivers, designed for enhanced reception in situational awareness applications.

RF Extreme PSRX6D Six-way Suitcase Receiver Ideal for government applications such as airborne downlinks and mobile vehicles that operate in tactical and/or strategic settings, the PSRX6D is capable of receiving microwave signals from two, four, or six different antennas while the MobilCMDR can receive microwave signals from two different antennas. The PSRX6D is a ruggedized COFDM (DVB-T compliant) six-way diversity portable receiver/monitor. The unit displays COFDM video transmissions using a built-in internal 10- or 12-inch ultra-bright daylight readable display.

Consisting of four built-in Block Down Converters, two with internal antennas and two for use with high-power external directional antennas, the PSRX6D also has two UHF input ports for optional external Down Converters, enabling the user to have true 6-way diversity or dual-band capabilities. The PSRX6D runs off internal batteries, external +12VDC or AC via an external power supply.

RF Extreme MobilCMDR Handheld Diversity Receiver The MobilCMDR HD (C-COFDM M-Mobile D-Diversity R-Receiver for HD video) offers H.264 decoding and displays COFDM video transmissions using a built-in internal 7.6-inch 16:9 format screen.

Both receivers select the best antenna and combine inputs to provide a superior non-line-of-sight video link. With the enhanced OLED screen, the monitors can be seen even in the brightness of sunlight.

The two new receivers offer superior diversity reception with new features including on-screen display, Ethernet monitoring for remote control access and IP encapsulation for Internet broadcast.

VERY SMALL TRANSMITTERS/RECEIVERS
The company will also show the Nucomm brand’s ultra-compact and compact VSTx and STx COFDM transmitters and VSRx and SRx dual diversity COFDM receivers for military, government and law enforcement applications.

Designed to meet or exceed the defense and security digital microwave equipment requirements, these ultra-compact transmitters are designed security monitoring, covert surveillance and other secure transmission applications.

RF Extreme Nucomm VSTx COFDM Transmitter The VSTx is an very small, low-power, standard-def COFDM transmitter ideally suited for concealed body-worn video wires, UAVs and robotic and other surveillance applications. The VSTx is just two cubic inches in size and is available with two connector options.

The first model features standard connector for simple interfacing in the field. The second model features a small flex ribbon interface cable that is ideal for integration with camera in very small, hidden locations such as a water bottle or even in objects as small as a cigarette pack.

For applications where size is not a limiting factor, but user interface and features are driving elements in specification, there’s the STx COFDM transmitter. The STx is slightly larger than the VSTx, but still only occupies less than six cubic inches, and can also be used for concealed, robotic, aerial and other applications. The STx can be operated in either 20mW or 200mW output power modes and features superb H.264 HD and SD encoding.

Both transmitters support video/audio and data transmission with selectable modulation bandwidths of 6, 7 and 8 MHz, require little setup and are designed to be user friendly.

The VSRx features H.264 SD decoding while the SRx features H.264 SD and HD decoding. These features are combined in a durable weather-resistant package. The SRx HD features AES decryption capabilities, making it ideal for public security monitoring, covert surveillance, and other secure transmission applications. The SRx additionally features streaming of the MPEG-TS over IP. This facilitates integration into video recording and distribution systems.

HELPING THE CUSTOMER

To put it all together, RF Extreme has ramped up its integration services for both government and broadcast customers.
