RADWIN Unveils ‘Wireless Mobility’ Solution for Trains

RADWIN, an Israeli provider of backhaul and broadband wireless solutions, unveils a solution “that provides high capacity wireless connectivity for moving trains,” including video streaming for surveillance purposes, the company says in a written statement.

RADWIN’s “Wireless Mobility” system is designed to operate in intense mobility environments, delivering up to 30Mbps net for vehicles moving at speeds of up to 93 mph (150 km/h), which is to be extended up to 186 mph (300 km/h).

Designed to enable high-speed communications with fast moving trains, RADWIN’s mobility solutions assure reliable delivery of real time, high capacity, high quality video streaming for surveillance purposes and train control, passenger information systems, Internet access, on-board entertainment, advertising and more.

Using RADWIN’s solution, fixed base stations are deployed from every 2 km (1.2 miles) to every 10 km (6.2 miles) along the track, while mobile units are placed on the moving train. RADWIN’s technology ensures seamless communications and smooth handover between the base stations, even when travelling at extremely high speeds, the company says.

RADWIN's Broadband Wireless Mobility solution uses frequencies between 2.3 GHz to 6 GHz in license-free and licensed.

Such "mobility applications" are driven by the growing demand for security measures on trains and the need to deliver high quality video from moving cars. The solution is also suitable for trains, trams, light rail, trolley cars, airport trains and similar transportation means, RADWIN says.
