Quantel, a developer of content creation and delivery systems across post and broadcast platforms, is now making available the VisLM loudness metering software by NUGEN Audio, a producer of professional audio tools.
NUGEN Audio’s VisLM provides a “true-peak level metering, loudness range, momentary-instantaneous loudness for mixing by ear, short-term loudness and program loudness,” and it is now available on Quantel’s latest V5.2 software, the companies say.
“Tight integration into the heart of an editing system is the key to a fast and efficient workflow,” says Jon Schorah, NUGEN Audio’s creative director. “By working with Quantel, we will help ensure that essential loudness metering is seamlessly available across its entire range of broadcast editors,” he says.
Loudness has become a “hot issue” over the last few years with standards bodies around the world introducing mandatory loudness specifications for all broadcast programming, the companies say. With detailed, objective loudness measurement, history and logging facilities, VisLM provides an Advanced Television System Committee, European Broadcasting Union and International Telecommunication Union standards compliant way to measure, compare and contrast loudness during post-production.
The VisLM loudness meter offers both real-time metering and a many-times faster than real-time analysis mode, the firms say. VisLM integrates into the Quantel editing and finishing workspace, allowing the user to monitor audio-loudness compliance simply and quickly, the companies add.
“Loudness compliance is now an essential consideration for broadcasters and post houses,” says Steven Owen, Quantel’s marketing director. “NUGEN Audio’s VisLM is a powerful, yet easy to use loudness meter that integrates right into the heart of our unbeatable, fast-turnaround workflow,” he says.
