The visual media professionals who attended the 2015 Interagency Visual Media Group conference were gathered to network, participate in breakout sessions conducted by industry experts and learn about the latest in media production technology and tradecraft.
Held in October in Springfield, Va., members of the intelligence community listened as Elliott Masie opened the event with an engaging keynote address that touted the changes technology has brought to the way we produce and consume media.
Masie is a futurist, analyst and speaker focused on the changing world of the workplace, learning and technology. He is editor of Learning TRENDS, an Internet newsletter read by 52,000 business executives. He’s written more than a dozen books and is a columnist for several professional publications. He heads the MASIE Center, a Saratoga Springs, N.Y., think tank focused on how organizations can support learning and knowledge within the workforce, and is acknowledged as the first analyst to use the term “e-learning.”
Among other topics, he talked about reimagining a presidential briefing as an app with built-in game. He also asked attendees to consider whether their reactions to recent presidential debates were about content, process, appearance or theatrics. Following the keynote address, approximately 20 industry professionals facilitated breakout sessions on topics like the art of a good interview to designing for mobile devices. Other topics included visual note taking, lighting for studio and field applications, optimizing Web development workflow and spinning a tale with maps and multimedia.
