ID Digital Media Inc., a Montreal-based media production company, has launched its smartphone application development arm, which is to service the interactive media needs of the film industry.
ID Digital will produce smartphone apps for iPhone, iPad and Android devices based on content from film properties, said Dan Shannon, the company’s founder. “Increasingly the filmed media landscape is becoming multi-screen,” he said.
“The TV market and the smartphone/tablet markets are intersecting,” and ID Digital “decided to harness this bountiful offering of creativity and make interactive applications which-spin off from the narrative, or augment the content in some way for these other devices,” Shannon said.
Applying this type of intuitive real-time logic and response to viewers of interactive media in the home, across TV/mobile/tablet applications opens a new sphere of creative possibilities for content creators. “Some of our upcoming apps, will do just that,” he added.
ID Digital Media is currently producing three mobile applications in association with documentaries currently in production and/or post-production for Canadian television on the themes of Type 1 diabetes; Canada/Quebec history; and the reconstruction efforts in Haiti, the company says.
