The university now has two Z-HD5000s covering game action to deliver coverage of games to online platforms, including multi-screen sports network ESPN3. Video, audio and intercom signals are transported over a single SMPTE fiber cable per camera to half-rack width CU-HD1000 camera control units in custom flypacks. The athletic department reportedly wants to add an additional two Z-HD5000s to include as handheld cameras on the sidelines.

The Hitachi cameras were initially used for basketball, baseball and softball, but will cover more sports in upcoming semesters, including soccer and field hockey. There is also a plan to utilize the cameras in a classroom setting, including teaching video production.

College Sports Programs Recruit Avid Systems

Avid won’t know which school’s colors to wear on gameday this year, as the media technology provider has provided a number of its products to NCAA schools to help create and manage content for in-stadium display, broadcast TV and online outlets.
