Helinet Aviation Services, a diversified flight services company, has acquired Shotover Camera Systems, the New Zealand-based developer of the world’s first gyro-stabilized camera system for shooting aerial footage in ultra high definition.
The Shotover system provides both 2D and 3D imaging capabilities and features a modular design that enables operators to utilize multiple camera and lens combinations.
“Not only is the Shotover system much easier to rig and to ship around the world versus older platforms, it’s the first movie quality solution that can actually be purchased outright rather than being available by rental only,” says Alan Purwin, president of Helinet.
“Alan and the Helinet team’s unparalleled understanding of the aerial aspects of motion picture, television and commercial production make them ideal partners to bring this new system to the worldwide market,” says John Coyle, Shotover’s founder who led the company’s technology development.
