Harris Broadcast Communications will incorporate midrange storage solutions produced by Dot Hill Systems Corp., a provider of storage area network (SAN) solutions, into Harris’ line of NEXIO Farad online storage systems for broadcasters and other media organizations.
Harris’ NEXIO Farad solution is a “high-performance online storage system” specifically designed for broadcast and production facilities, including news, sports and live-event applications, Harris says. The NEXIO Farad system offers flexible and uncompromising storage that delivers unprecedented levels of bandwidth and capacity to support industry media workflows, the company says.
“Broadcast and production facilities rely on NEXIO Farad storage for fast-turnaround editorial and shorter ingest-to-air time,” said Andrew Warman, Harris’ senior product marketing manager for servers, editing and graphics. “Dot Hill’s proven storage architecture provides the reliable uptime and resiliency our customers in broadcasting and media require for continuous operations,” he added.
Dot Hill’s storage portfolio offers up to 288 terabytes of capacity in a single system, great ease-of-use and demonstrated 99.999 percent availability, the company says. Dot Hill systems feature the latest storage networking technologies such as eight gigabytes Fibre Channel, six gigabytes serial attached SCSI (SAS) and 10 gigabytes Internet small computer system interface (iSCSI).
Dot Hill’s SimulCache technology leverages redundant array of independent disks (RAID) controllers, thus eliminating the performance degradation associated with conventional cache mirroring, the company says. The implementation of a high-speed dedicated PCI-Express bus streamlines write-performance resulting in superior overall system responsiveness, driving faster application throughput, according to the firm. Dual redundant RAID controllers, dual power supplies and dual fans ensure customers do not experience downtime or data loss.
“Dot Hill has been gaining steady momentum in the media and entertainment space,” said Dana Kammersgard, Dot Hill’s president and CEO. “Harris is a giant in broadcast and media creation and the selection of Dot Hill as the foundation for future NEXIO Farad storage solutions is the latest validation of Dot Hill’s powerful architecture and its ability to meet the stringent performance requirements of the broadcast industry.”
