Harmonic’s ‘ProStream 9100’ Now Has Ad-Splicing Capabilities

Harmonic, a producer of video-delivery products, said its ProStream 9100 real-time stream processor now has linear ad-splicing capabilities.
The new ad-splicing functionality enables broadcasters to accurately insert targeted local and regional advertisements into broadcast programming delivered via MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC SD/HD transport streams, according to Harmonic. That can increase revenue, the company adds.
In addition to linear ad-splicing, the ProStream 9100 supports a variety of digital processing applications, including scrambling, multiplexing, transcoding and now linear ad splicing, said Krishnan Padmanabhan, Harmonic’s senior vice president, video products.
The linear ad-splicing enhancement is the latest example of intelligent function integration, which provides broadcasters with a next-generation solution dedicated to increasing workflow efficiency while reducing capital expenditures and operating expenses, Harmonic said.
