The House of Representatives’ Energy & Commerce Committee’s website features the Committee’s Organizational Meeting for the 113th Congress held on Jan. 22, 2013, and which can be viewed on its website.
The full Committee also sets rules, jurisdiction and membership for its subcommittees including the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology.
The Communications and Technology subcommittee’s jurisdiction is over electronic communications, both interstate and foreign, including voice, video, audio and data, whether transmitted by wire or wirelessly, and whether transmitted by telecommunications, commercial or private mobile service, broadcast, cable, satellite, microwave, or other mode.
Its jurisdiction also includes general technology; emergency and public safety communications; cybersecurity, privacy, and data security; the Federal Communications Commission, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration and the Office of Emergency Communications in the Department of Homeland Security.
All broadcasters—including noncommercial—should be interested in the establishment of the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology and what is on its agenda for the new Congress.
For providing information and video access to the Energy & Commerce Committee’s organizational meeting, the ECC is Government Video’s Website of the Week.
