The Family Online Safety Institute (FOSI) is an international organization that endeavors to make the online world safer for children and families by identifying and promoting best practices, tools and methods in the field of online safety, that also respect free expression. FOSI works to achieve its missions through the development of public policy, technology, education and special events.
While FOSI works on big-picture public policy—including courting the support of leaders in government, industry and the nonprofit sectors—to increase Internet child safety, the organization’s website offers plans focused on the individual level, including providing kids and parents with Internet safety tips, as well as a “Family Online Internet Safety Contract.” But it does not stop there; FOSI also posts its own reports on serious issues youngsters might have to face online, including “cyberbullying,” “sexting” and the “self-harm” of children in the digital age.
