Government Video Website of the Week: TeacherDirect

The TeacherDirect website is a gateway for teachers to signup to receive information and resources
Publish date:

The Virginia Department of Education’s TeacherDirect program is designed to establish a direct line of communication with classroom teachers and educators, and its website is a gateway for teachers to signup to receive TeacherDirect information and resources.
The goal of TeacherDirect is to provide a way to share with teachers the new instructional resources created by the VDOE, as well as make teachers aware of professional development and grant opportunities, and other information of special interest to teachers and their students.
To encourage teachers to subscribe to TeacherDirect, the VDOE has posted on the TeacherDirect website video in which three teachers discuss the benefits of participating in that program. In addition to receiving weekly updates from the VDOE, the teachers in the video talk about the resources and information available to them that can help their students meet the new “standards of learning” for Virginia Public Schools.
The TeacherDirect webpage includes SOL news; a list of SOL events for professional development opportunities by date, content area and event type; and an SOL library that lists videos, presentations and catalogs of materials and training programs available for English, math, science and social studies. And, there is information on how teachers can sign up for weekly e-mail updates.
For creating an online gateway for Virginia’s teachers to get started on helping their students meet the state’s new learning standards, the TeacherDirect website is Government Video’s Website of the Week.
