In an effort to broaden the public's understanding of intellectual property rights, the Intellectual Property Owners Education Foundation (IPOEF) sponsored a video contest to educate youths and the public at large about the importance of the patent system. Contestants competed in three age categories, 13-15; 16-18; and 19 and older for cash prizes or scholarships ranging from $1,500 to $5,000. The winning videos can now be seen on the contest website.
The foundation’s board of directors selected one winning video in each category and the second winners in each category was determined by more than 3,700 members of the public who cast votes. The winning videos cleverly show how patents promote competition and progress and grow businesses; encourage research and development and fuel the creation of new technologies; and create jobs, inspire further innovation and enable pigs to fly.
For showcasing young people’s creativity with video, the IPOEF is Government Video’s Website of the Week.
