For many people, there is a certain romance about buses, trains and streetcars that lasts a lifetime. For retired transit worker H.B. Craig II, his enthusiasm for buses and his hometown naturally lead to Detroit Transit History.info.
Designed as a “look back at the history of public transportation in and around the City of Detroit,” the website highlights developments and changes in focus, governance and equipment from the Civil War through to the modern day. In addition to essays and photographs, the site includes a video section with mix of video from old television newscasts, Department of Street Railways training videos, and promotional videos from different eras of Detroit public transit. The videos are hosted in Windows Media Player format, and are also linked through to Craig’s YouTube channel.
Craig, who describes the informational website as a “work in progress,” continues to update the site and welcomes your transit photos, thoughts and corrections to firstname.lastname@example.org.
