Summer travel season is here, and millions will drive at least a few miles on I-95, the East Coast’s main street.

Just in time, the U.S. Department of Transportation and some partners have taken a broad look at the multi-jurisdictional route with a Website www.i95travelinfo.org, that takes highway resources you may already know and puts them in one easy-to-manage space.

OK, there’s no video on the site itself, but it quickly links to the DoT’s in various states along the corridor, where the curious can check out hundreds of live traffic cameras.

Just think: In a few years, we won’t just have GPS in our cars, but live feeds of the traffic up ahead, to help us pick the best route selection. Sites like this one are helping remind people that the images form the vast networks of traffic cams are available to the public, and sometimes helpful with trip planning.

It lets you zoom in to see traffic levels not just on I-95 and its various loops and spurs, but also most major surrounding roads.

So, this simple yet useful tool helping the public more efficiently use THEIR highways, is the Government Video Website of the Week!

Check out last week’s Website of the Week, where One Small Step turns 40.
