There is a lot of great video out there being made by government operations, at all levels of government. All cities have limited resources, but still need to deliver services, maintain public spaces and remind citizens of their obligations.

The web channel we're saluting for the week of Nov. 1, 2013, is the City of Spokane's YouTube channel. Like many cities in the northwest, Spokane's citizens tend to be outdoors and environmentally conscious, and its YouTube site reflects that. One of many well-produced videos explained the city's time crunch in cleaning up a major park on a tight schedule between two important public events. Some people might think that parks prepare themselves -- but this video proves otherwise. Other videos show the range of city activities and concerns, from reminding people to share the streets with bicycles and showing pride at the opening of a new police facility.

Of course, mayors and other politicians love to spend time at microphones in front of crowds. Few take the dare and decide to sing a well-known song with a video camera rolling, but Spokane's Mayor David Condon did just that and proved that he was a good sport. Good sports, hard-working people and a YouTube channel that makes Spokane look like a great place to live -- and the city does it with reasonably well-produced videos, most of which are in HD.

For showing the northwest lifestyle and its responsive government, Government Video salutes the City of Spokane's YouTube channel.
