Communications solution provider Globecomm has received its first Federal government contract to deploy an Internet Protocol TV service for deployed personnel overseas.
Known as Globecomm Programmed Video Solutions/TV (GPVS-TV), the service will be installed in a large, multi-unit dwelling, providing fully licensed television content, DVR and digital signage capabilities, and distribution to more than 2,000 viewing points at the facility. Deployed personnel will have the option of viewing over 100 channels of network TV, sports, news, premium channels and video-on-demand selections. Globecomm will also provide fiber bandwidth and satellite services connectivity.
“Under this contract, Globecomm will provide real-time US-based entertainment, sports and news content to our deployed forces to offset the hardships of long deployments in remote regions of the world,” said Dwight Hunsicker, senior vice president and general manager, Government Solutions.
