GI Film Festival Los Angeles Showcases Military Films, Celebrity Awards, Red Carpet Parties and More

BURBANK, CALIF.—The GI Film Festival, a community partner of the Hollywood studio-driven “Got Your Six” military support campaign and the nation’s only military film festival, will host its second annual GI Film Festival Los Angeles event, Nov. 1-2, 2013, at The Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, Calif.

GIFF LA will feature film screenings spanning World War I through Iraq and Afghanistan, a workshop for military veteran filmmakers, a veteran employment panel hosted by top industry experts, red carpet entrances, awards and after parties.

GIFF is a 501c3 non-profit organization described as “Sundance for the Troops,” preserves the stories of veterans through film, television and training. The festival partners with Veterans in Film and Television, Got Your Six, The Military Channel, U.S. Veterans Magazine, American Legion Post 43, Operation Gratitude, Operation Home Front, USO of Greater Los Angeles, and SBTN among others. The GIFF LA Host Committee is chaired by Steven Dunning, former national co-lead, NBCUniversal Veterans Network, with actor and military veteran Mark Valley serving as the honorary co-chair.

Special guests and participants as of Oct. 24 include Gen. John F. Campbell, vice chief of staff, U.S. Army; Powers Boothe, actor (Nashville, Sin City); Michael Dorn, actor/director (Star Trek: Next Generation/Deep Space 9, Castle); Christy Carlson Romano, actress (Even Stevens, Cadet Kelly, “Belle” on Broadway); Scott Elrod, actor (Lone Survivor, Argo, Men in Trees); James McEachin, actor and military veteran (Perry Mason, U.S. Army Silver Star recipient); Candace Bailey (Attack of the Show, Jericho); Taylor Treadwell (Homeland); Matthew Leitch (Band of Brothers).

Industry experts at the festival will represent The Walt Disney Studios, NBCUniversal, Warner Brothers and DreamWorks, among others.
