FLIR Snags 4.9 Million Order for Colombian Military

The units will be installed on surveillance and tactical platforms in support of day and night counter-narcotic and counter-insurgency missions.

FLIR Systems is sending more of its Star SAFIRE III long-distance infra-red multi-sensor surveillance systems into the war against cocaine.

The company announced a $4.9 million deal with the Colombian Ministry of Defense for the devices and related training and maintenance. They'll be installed aircraft in support of day and night counter-narcotic and counter-insurgency missions.

Work on this order will be performed at FLIR's facility in Wilsonville, Ore., with deliveries to be completed in 2010.

"This order demonstrates FLIR's significant presence in Colombia and Latin America, as we have now fielded over 240 multi-sensor systems in the region," said Earl R. Lewis, president and CEO of FLIR Systems.
