An agency of the U.S. government that produces webcasts, satellite broadcasts and video productions for other federal agencies, as well as for clients in the private sector, has selected six Ikegami HDK-77EX full-digital HDTV camera systems to outfit its television studio, says a written statement by Ikegami.
The Division of Communication Media (DCM) is a sub-agency of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and it provides “comprehensive studio and location videotaping, live webcasts, live broadcasts with satellite transmission and closed captioning, plus broadcast-quality post-production.”
To meet those needs, the DCM selected the Ikegami HDK-77EX full-digital HDTV camera systems because “the color reproduction that Ikegami provides seems to be much richer” than a lot of other cameras, Chad Heupel, DCM’s director, said in Ikegami’s statement. “Features and picture quality are the main things that impressed us about Ikegami,” he said.
Four of the Ikegami HDK-77EX full-digital HDTV cameras are on studio pedestals with EFP lenses and 20-inch prompters, according to the company. A fifth camera is mounted on a jib arm, and the sixth camera is shoulder-mounted for productions involving audiences and on-camera participants.
Designed for HD production applications requiring portability, compact size, and low weight, the HDK-77EX employs three 2/3-inch/2.2-million-pixel IT CCDs, 14-bit A/D converters, and Ikegami’s Chip C4 digital signal processing ASIC to deliver high picture quality and reliable operation, the company says.
DCM’s studio-configured HDK-77EX cameras are outfitted with Ikegami 9-inch LCD 16:9 HD viewfinders (the camera can also be equipped with a 2-inch 16:9 CRT viewfinders for portable use, or a five-inch CRT for studio applications). The HDK-77EX also features an integrated SMPTE fiber cable adaptor for studio or field use. SMPTE fiber cable is a hybrid camera cable comprising copper for power and fiber for signal transmission. The adaptor provides uncompressed HD signal transmission to Ikegami’s compact, BS-89 base station, the company says.
In addition, to the six HDK-77EX full-digital HDTV cameras, DCM selected Ikegami’s OCP-200 operation control panel and the MCP-200 master control panel as part of the agency’s new system.
