The nEUROn demonstrator, an unmanned stealth combat aircraft built through a European cooperative venture, has been unveiled and is to undergo two years of test flights.

The nEUROn program was started in 2003 by the French Ministry of Defense and following five years of design, development, assembly and static testing, the 31.2 feet long unmanned aircraft was built by Alenia Aermacchi of Italy; Dassault of France; EADS-CASA of Spain; HAI of Greece; RUAG of Switzerland; and Saab of Sweden.

The nEUROn, which was built “on a virtual plateau,” is scheduled for its first flight during 2012, which is to be followed by a series of flight tests over two years in France, Italy and Sweden.
