Atlanta’s Police Department and Police Foundation have contracted CIBER Inc., a global information technology consulting, services and outsourcing company, to provide a physical security information management (PSIM) solution that integrates public-private video surveillance.

Under the terms of the contract, CIBER, working with Motorola Solutions, will provide its advanced PSIM solution—CIBERSecure—to integrate hundreds of disparate video surveillance systems that are currently in operation, or planned, around the Atlanta downtown and mid-town areas into a single command and control display in the city E911 center.

The project is known as “Operation Shield,” seeks to integrate the different security systems and video surveillance technologies of public and private entities, according to CIBER.

Erin Phelps, CIBER's Enterprise Security Solutions’ vice president, said, Despite video surveillance becoming a very useful, flexible and cost-effective tool, both protecting the public, and public property, is becoming an increasingly more difficult job for municipal governments.

While public, private surveillance systems generally cannot be shared; CIBERSecure solves that dilemma, according to Phelps. CIBERSecure can access that surveillance video, thereby providing real-time situational awareness and allow law enforcement to more quickly assess a situation before deploying the appropriate resources, he said.
