Building4Media Automates Municipal Video

CityCaster system designed for emergency situations, as well as on-going communications efforts
Publish date:

Introduced at IBC2010, Building4Media’s CityCaster solution is designed to give municipal governments a simplified means of providing citizens with a wide range of information via broadcast channels, mobile devices and the Internet.

Remote management capabilities and Internet streaming make it easy to keep citizens informed even during full evacuation situations. It also helps give citizens direct access to information from local government officials.

For example, if a hurricane forces the evacuation of a smaller town north of a major metro area, local media coverage may focus on the concerns of the larger region. With CityCaster, city officials can update the system remotely and citizens can check the city’s webcasts for up-to-date information about the danger in their specific town.

Based on Building4Media’s file-based and metadata-driven FORK system, CityCaster includes modules for clip ingest, content search, editing, live playout and master control, as well as archiving. It can be integrated with the Mobile2Air video recording and uploading app to allow citizen journalists to contribute reports to the city’s video channels.

CityCaster is a hardware agnostic system and it can be run under Mac OS or Windows platforms.
