ATLANTA — Playout solutions provider BroadStream Solutions has introduced what it’s calling a “shrink-wrapped” and simplified playout solution targeting the playout needs of smaller market broadcasters, educational groups, CATV organizations and corporate TV channels.
The BEACON Simplified Playout software-based playout solution uses a single playout server to play back video clips and live events and offers a single graphics layer with animation. It incorporates a number of software modules including BroadStream Animator, Scheduler, Logger, Storage Manager and File Checker Manager to provide file management and QC, schedule import and graphics creation, as well as provide up to four DVB subtitle streams.
The solution will be available in two versions: BEACON-SOLO and BEACON 1+1. Each are capable of SDI or IP multichannel playout of up to four channels (up to two HD or four SD).
Designed around the architectural elements of BroadStream’s OASYS platform, BEACON includes the features for file-based playout, localized content and digital ad insertion with a single live input, the company said.
“The niche oriented nature of television today is not only an issue for program content but also for playback operators as well,” said Herbert Brenninkmeijer, president and CEO of BroadStream Solutions. “Many broadcasters, because of the nature of their channel, don’t need the same features as very large commercial channels.” BEACON, he said, offers niche operators a specific feature set in a self-contained solution.
