Blueforce Development Corporation and Verizon Wireless are partnering on an advanced wireless solutions for public safety, emergency medical, national security and critical infrastructure protection in the government and commercial market, the companies say.
Blueforce and Verizon Wireless say they are developing “information mobility and advanced situational awareness solutions for human-to-human and machine-to-machine” communications using Verizon Wireless’ network and services.
Blueforce currently provides its Blueforce Tactical (BTAC), a mobile software application that enables rapid information sharing amongst tactical team members. The BTAC uses Windows Mobile Smartphones and PDAs to provide secure information exchanges between team members using standard cellular, WIFI, WiMAX, satellite, and/or mesh networks, the company says.
By using Verizon Wireless Windows-based smartphones, Windows tablets and Windows netbooks, Blueforce seeks to provide a software application and fusion platform for secure information sharing and enhanced presence among national security teams. Three areas that wireless solutions can likely play a role are:
- Information mobility, in which the wireless solutions provide situational awareness and information sharing during tactical operations
- Critical infrastructure protection, in which the wireless solutions are used to detect, prevent or mitigate critical infrastructure disruptions because of man-made or natural events
- Contingency operations, in which wireless capabilities are deployed to establish emergency operations, communications and supply chain coordination following a highly disruptive man-made or natural event.
