Black Box has introduced an appliance to tackle digital signage content in a wide range of formats, with all software pre-installed, manageable from any browser on a wide-area network.

The iCOMPEL enables combinations of video or live TV (including 1080p HDTV) with scrolling text, photos, Flash all types of Web content from MPEG to Quicktime to PowerPoint and .wav and mp3 audio.

One iCOMPEL unit, used as a publisher, can send media over the network to another unit functioning as a subscriber in a different location.

It's designed for both large and small operations, and can scale up to a multichannel network with hundreds of screens. It comes in six versions and offers easy drag-and-drop tools.

“It’s exactly what business owners and integrators have been asking for,” said Mario Calabro, Black Box Multimedia Products manager. “They’ve wanted a truly plug-and-play device that delivers compelling content but doesn’t require a high level of technical skill or advanced creative skill to set up and use.”

The iCOMPEL line complements Black Box’s lineup of signage products inlcuding media players, extenders, splitters, converters and swtiches.
