The U.S. Army has placed an order with ITT Exelis, an aerospace, defense and information solutions firm, for 500 more MX-11769 (I²) tubes for image intensifiers and night vision goggles as part of a previous order of more than 8,000.

On Feb. 27, 2012, the Army ordered 8,243 Generation 3 image intensifier MX-11769 (I²) tubes from ITT Exelis. The latest order by the Army—made March 26, 2012—is for tubes that would be used with Exelis’ AN/PVS-14 night vision monocular devices (night vision goggles), the company says.

Exelis also received an additional “Foreign Military Sales” order—that was approved by the Army’s Research, Development, Engineering Command Acquisition Center—to provide 34 AN/PVS-7 and 14 AN/PVS-14 night vision goggles to an unnamed international customer.

“ITT Exelis continues to provide the U.S. military and our international allies with advanced Generation 3 night vision technology,” said Nick Bobay, vice president and general manager of ITT Exelis night vision business area. “We are pleased that the Army has chosen Exelis based on our ability to deliver superior capability at affordable prices,” he added.

Exelis’ Generation 3 night vision technology provides an unprecedented “own the night,” operational advantage to our service members, and is simply the most technically advanced night vision system on the battlefield, the company says.
