The Canon EOS 5D Mark II—a still camera that also shoots HD video—is about to be the beneficiary of a downloadable firmware upgrade to enable manual exposure control (including ISO, aperture and shutter speed) while shooting video.

It’s an improvement that further narrows the distance between the camera and dedicated pro HD cameras.

Canon says it’s the first time such features will be available on a DSLR like the Mark II.

The company says the download will be available in early June.
