The British Home Office is considering remote-controlled aircraft—like those being deployed in war zones—for domestic crime-fighting and surveillance, a British newspaper reported.

The Telegraph reported Tuesday that a government report has suggested using the planes, which could be fitted with video and heat-seeking sensors.

The drones could track criminals and gather evidence without endangering police officers, the report said.

The paper said British authorities are working with the nation’s aviation Civil Aviation Authority about the aircraft. Some measure as little as two feet across the wings, according to the report.
