A Texas town is dismissing 1,740 red-light tickets and issuing 882 refunds because the duration of a yellow light was shorter than legally required, according to a local report.

UltimateClearLake.com, part of the Houston Chronicle family, reported Tuesday (March 9) that an anti-camera activist timed a yellow light in League City with a stopwatch. At 4 seconds, it was 0.7 seconds shorter than what Texas requires on a 50 mph highway. State Transportation Department officials agreed.

At $75 per ticket, the refunded or dismissed revenue for the city and camera provider Redflex would come to nearly $200,000.
