Sending video by satellite from very remote locations is getting within the reach of more and more organizations.

This month, Inmarsat is launching an entry-level satellite service that will start at 176 Kbps—compared with the 384 Kbps minimum offered as the BGAN Xtreme service, which launched globally last summer.

It won't exactly carry HD video, but it is enough bandwidth to inexpensively provide standups and other basic video content.

And still more data than the 128 Kbps platform—made by linking two 64 Kbps satphones—that big news networks used for standups when the war in Afghanistan started in 2001.
