Submission Guidelines
Stories need to be turned in by deadline, which will usually
fall on the first Friday of the month. Submitted stories
should be sent via e-mail to mpescatore@uemedia.com as either
a Word document or text file. Please provide a suggested
headline and deck for each article, as well as at least
two subheads in the text if the article exceeds 500 words.
An invoice should follow under separate cover and can be
either an attached file or simply included in the "message"
section of the e-mail. All invoices must include:
- date of invoice
- name of author
- address where payment should be sent
- Social Security number or Federal Employer number
- title of article(s) and scheduled issue of publication
- payment rate
Invoices without all of the above information cannot be
processed and must be returned for completion, which could
delay payment.
Writers are responsible for obtaining artwork for their
stories. Images can include original photography, product
shots, or tables, but every story should have at least one
image. (Images for columns are optional but encouraged.)
Photos can be accepted as pictures, slides, or electronic
files, but all images must be in color. Acceptable formats
for Mac files are .tif, .jpg, .ai, .eps, .bmp, .tga, while
acceptable formats for PC files are .tif or .eps. Image
resolution must be no less than 798x798 pixels (3x3 inches
at 266 dpi), though 1,200x1,800 pixels (4x6 inches at 300
dpi) is preferred. Please send all artwork to:

Finally, each article has to be coded after we receive
it, so writers do not have to submit "fancy" looking
articles with larger headlines or colors. If you need to
emphasize a word in the text, please do not type it in ALL
CAPS; instead, use the coding below to indicate italics.
You can also code other parts of the story if you wish.
@Head:Use this to indicate headline
@Deck:Use this to indicate deck
@Byline:Your Name Here
@Body:This is how we code regular text. You only need to
use it at the beginning of the story or after a subhead.
@Subhead:For The Subheads
italics: <I>emphasize these words<P>
