Genetec Security Software Available Through Cloud Provider

Genetec, a provider of unified Internet protocol (IP) security solutions, unveiled its plan for providing physical security software through Microsoft’s cloud-computing platform.
Through a multi-year partnership with Microsoft, Genetec is developing hosted security solutions including video surveillance, access control and license plate recognition (LPR) as a service that will be built on Microsoft’s cloud platform.
By working closely with Microsoft, Genetec is able to take advantage of Windows Azure—which is Microsoft’s cloud-based development platform—as a central part of Genetec’s strategy to bring market-leading video surveillance, access control and license plate recognition to a broader user-base, said Pierre Racz, Genetec’s CEO.
“Bringing video security, access control and LPR to the cloud requires a safe, secure and reliable computing platform,” Racz said. “There is no better cloud provider than Microsoft and its Windows Azure platform upon which to build our software-as-service offerings,” he added.
By establishing “the functionalities of its unified security platform to the cloud, organizations of all sizes will benefit from enterprise-class features and functions in a Web-based offering,” said Kim Akers, Microsoft’s general manager of platform evangelism.
Genetec’s solutions will harness cloud computing and take advantage of physical security systems on demand, thereby integrators will be able to take advantage of streamlined, and simplified, set-up, provisioning and install procedures, according to the company. Security assets will be automatically stored in the cloud so that they can be easily reused, retrieved and analyzed, Genetec says. Users will be able to configure security systems and upgrades without disruption, and take advantage of world-class data centers to reduce IT burden and costs, the firm added.
