Genetec Plans 2013 Debut of Open Architecture IP Controller

Genetec, a provider of unified Internet protocol security solutions, says it will release the Synergis Master Controller, an intelligent IP controller based on an open architecture, in 2013.
The SMC has been designed to address demand for non-proprietary access control solutions, offering native support of access control hardware, the company says.
Functioning within Security Center, Genetec’s unified security platform, Synergis is a control system that blends IP video surveillance, access control and license plate recognition. It also provides monitoring of access events and alarms, cardholder management and reporting across multiple sites.
Technology partnerships with Mercury Security and HID Global also enable Genetec customers to choose from several industry-standard reader interfaces, input and output modules.
“We are making it possible for customers to choose best-of-breed hardware based on their needs, while knowing that they avoided the pitfalls of proprietary systems,” says Jimmy Palatsoukas, Genetec’s senior manager of product marketing.
The SMC is intended for customers who want to update existing installations and transition to a fully IP-based access control system. It can also facilitate migration to the Security Center by leveraging existing infrastructure such as readers, interface modules and wiring.
