FDNY Broadcasts Fires Live With iPhone Streamur App

NEW YORK—To increase situational awareness for fighting fires, the Fire Department of New York has started to utilized a live broadcasting platform from Mobile Viewpoint and its partner company KenCast.

Using the Mobile Viewpoint Streamur iPhone app, three iPhones are paired with a cellular hotspot to transmit video to the KenCast end-user platform for password-protected live feeds to PC, Android or iOS devices. This watches firefighters or officials at offsite locations to watch the incident in near real-time (five second delay). Cloud-recorded video of the footage will be later available for training, analysis and investigation.

The FDNY is looking to expand the platform by using a tethered drone to provide live aerial video. This is reportedly the first FAA-approved government drone for use in New York City.
