Broadcast Pix Present for Wake County School Board Meetings

Granite 1000 used for live coverage

CHELMSFORD, MASS.—New this school year for the Wake County Public School System in Cary, N.C., is the Broadcast Pix Granite 1000 integrated production switcher, which is being used to help produce live coverage of its school board meetings. Installed as part of a facility upgrade, the switcher is housed in the central office facility that also added new PTZ cameras and an updated sound system.

The small control room used by Wake County is anchored by the Granite switcher, which is used twice a month to record meetings. One of the meetings is a work session that features only one camera; the other is a formal meeting that utilizes four Panasonic cameras. The cameras are controlled by using the Granite’s joystick on the control panel. The switcher also features camera presets. Built-in CG, images and video roll-ins also used to provide lower-thirds and graphics.

In the press release from Broadcast Pix, Wake County’s communications administrators were convinced that the Granite system would be appropriate even for those untrained in video production when third graders from a local elementary school were able to use it.

The school board meetings are streamed live to the WCPSS YouTube channel and to a local NBC affiliate’s website.
