Gear stays protected in the DryZone
The last time I remember wearing a backpack was camping with my YMCA troupe in 1967. These days, I've traded in my flimsy, olive green knapsack for a bright yellow and black Lowepro DryZone 200 (also available in gray and black). And instead of hauling camping gear, I'm carrying video and still camera equipment in a sturdy, waterproof alternative to a foam-filled briefcase.

Panasonic HPX500 is mid-range overachiever
It's hard to knock Panasonic's AG-HVX200 P2 HD camcorder, especially at a list price of $6,000. But if your budget allows you to move up to the mid-range of camcorders, you really need to look at Panasonic's AG-HPX500.

More from less
Today’s smaller camcorders offer more than their fair share of conveniences, but it’s often at the cost of functionality. Panasonic welcomes AVCHD format with new camcorder
In the world of low-cost HD, you have a few choices. HDV, based on MPEG-2 technology, is used in camcorders from Sony, JVC, and Canon. Most of these camcorders feature mini-DV tape acquisition, though most are compatible with HDD-based recording devices.
