Looking for some information about science—from health to chemistry to snowstorms? Well, don’t tell the folks at Google, but there’s a great way to search for all kinds of scientific and technical information without the pages and pages of pointless dreck you get with every Google search. And, it doesn’t track your browsing behavior to send you “targeted” ads.
Science.gov covers just about everything—searching more than 40 scientific databases and 200 million pages of science information with every query. It links together the power of more than 2,000 Websites, using methods that are a lot more scientific than the firehose of bits Google throws out at you.
And, it orders them in convenient, user-friendly ways. Enter a term and you get recent, relevant search results in the midle of the page. (For those accustomed to Google and may have forgotten, “recent” means that your top search items are from this month, not last decade; and “relevant” means the results may actually help you find the information you were seeking.)
On the left, a list of sub-topics related to your query appear. Below that is a list of years in case you want to search for something you know was published back in 2008, for example. And on the right are a bunch of recent news stories related to the topic.
In short, if it isn’t here, it’s probably science fiction, not science.
