UNLV Gets SGL FlashNet Archive
November 25, 2009

Software Generation Ltd. has provided a FlashNet archive to the University of Nevada-Las Vegas Hank Greenspun School of Journalism and Media Studies.

The SGL archive, under the control of an Avid Interplay system, is used by UNLV’s media editors and managers to archive and restore projects between its online Avid ISIS storage array and nearline network attached storage (NAS). The SGL archive allows editors to manage assets from within the Avid Media Composer and Avid Interplay Access systems and negates the requirement of dedicated IT staff to perform archive and restore operations, thereby reducing costs and improving the workflow.

The archive was installed by SGL and sold through systems integrator AZCAR.

The vast Greenspun facility houses a state-of-the-art production and media broadcast centre. KUNV, UNLV’s radio station recently celebrated its 25th year on the air and is the only full-power FM station in the valley with a traditional jazz format. UNLV TV, in its 16th year, showcases UNLV faculty, programs and events.

“We recently moved to a new facility and the technical infrastructure designed and installed with the help of AZCAR is impressive,” said UNLV Media Network Engineer Michael Piper. “We chose the SGL archive because of its close relationship with the Avid Interplay system and its Open System architecture.”

“The education sector is an important market for SGL and we are delighted to announce this sale to UNLV,” said SGL President Americas Mickey Charles. “This installation is an excellent reference for universities across the country boasting a fully operational digital pipeline that reduces costs, enhances creativity and simplifies workflow.”
