Sony Unleashes New AVCHD Family, NXCAM
November 20, 2009

Sony Electronics has added a new family of products operating with the AVCHD format and aimed at pro and “pro-sumer” users.

NXCAM camcorder
The first in the new NXCAM line is a camcorder built around Sony’s Exmor CMOS sensor array.

“Building on our success with file-based solid-state technology, the time is right to bring to market a memory-based camcorder using the latest AVCHD technology with low-cost memory cards,” said Tatsuro Kurachi, group marketing manager of Sony’s broadcast and professional audio/video group. “Coupled with the latest innovations in lens and sensor design, this new family will offer outstanding picture performance for professional applications such as event videography, commercial or corporate video production.”

The new NXCAM camcorder delivers 1920x1080 HD resolution and can operate in both interlaced and progressive scanning modes. It also supports 1080/24p, 720/60p and MPEG-2 SD recording and offers two channels of linear PCM audio.
