Barco Displays Heading to Mideast Helicopters
June 12, 2009

Barco is filling “a sizable order” for its MDU-268 avionics-grade mission display units from Highland Integrated Surveillance Systems Inc. (HISS), a Toronto-based surveillance system integrator. The units will be installed on 30 helicopters for an undisclosed customer in the Middle East.

Barco MDU-268 displays will be combined with an RN6 Digital Map Generator from EuroAvionics to create a sophisticated mission display solution.

“The Barco MDU-268 mission display proved to be an ideal solution for this project, not only because of its superior image quality under all conditions, but also because of its easy integration and user-friendly operation,” said HISS vice president of operations Mark Pickering. “Thanks to the convenient ‘On Screen Display’ soft key labeling, operators can rapidly and easily control the RN6 Digital Map and the video inputs by means of the programmable function keys on the bezel.”

“The MDU-268 mission display will present the helicopter crew with a dedicated imaging solution, compatible with FLIR, high-definition daylight video cameras, moving maps, computers and radar,” said Robert Sanders, senior executive over Defense and Avionics at Barco. “Moreover, the display sets itself apart with its very compact footprint and low power consumption, which makes it easier for system integrators to integrate the unit in virtually any cockpit or cabin environment.”

The MDU-268 is a recent addition to Barco’s cockpit display offering, derived from the company’s CHDD-2000 family. Equipped with sunlight-readable AMLCD technology, the 6-by-8-inch display a wide viewing angle of 80 degrees in all directions.

The MDU-268 is DO-178B and DO-254 certified.
