China Approaching 3 Million Police Surveillance Cams

 Permanent link
More surveillance cameras may be coming to rural China. Monday, the Ministry of Public Security in the world’s most populous nation has asked local police authorities to install more cameras in rural areas, adding to the 2.75 million already installed, mostly in urban areas.

The ministry said it has installed more than 268,000 cameras in Beijing alone.

Of the 2.75 million police surveillance cameras, most came in an anti-crime push begun in 2003

Last week, the country’s largest supplier of surveillance technology equipment, China Surveillance and Technology Inc., joined the HDcctv Alliance, a consortium working on a specification for high-definition CCTV systems.
